Jennifer Elise Art Charleston Soft Pastel and Acrylic Artist
Jennifer Elise is a self-taught, intuitive artist based in Charleston, South Carolina. Working primarily with soft pastels and acrylics, her practice is rooted in exploration rather than premeditation, allowing each piece to unfold organically through touch, movement, and emotion. Her work features dreamy landscapes, rolling hills, vibrant florals, and whispering grasses that evoke a sense of quiet wonder and gentle nostalgia.
Before pursuing art full-time, Jennifer spent 13 years working as an oncology nurse. After leaving nursing to care for her young children, creativity naturally re-entered her life through shared play—finger painting, Play-Doh, and eventually watercolors filling the family playroom. What began as creative exploration alongside her children soon revealed itself as a deeper calling.
Jennifer discovered soft pastels through other artists on Instagram and was immediately drawn to their soft, creamy pigment and tactile freedom. The medium offered a direct, hands-on connection to the work that brushes could not—encouraging messiness, spontaneity, and a childlike expressiveness that remains central to her practice. She began sharing her pastel landscapes online, where growing interest and requests affirmed her path as an artist.
Following a recent winter trip to Amsterdam, Jennifer expanded her focus to acrylic painting and is currently developing a tulip series inspired by the experience. Her work continues to reflect a balance of intuition, softness, and lived experience—inviting viewers into peaceful, imagined landscapes shaped by touch, memory, and emotion.
